(YAVAPAI COUNTY) – As we head into the holiday season, we find ourselves reflecting on what we’re most thankful for. Anyone who has adopted a pet often puts their companion at the top of that list – and it’s mutual for that deserving cat or dog. Luckily, if you’re interested in adding a new four-legged friend to your family, you can do so at the PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, Nov.16-17 from 11:00am-4:00pm at your neighborhood PetSmart® store in Prescott, Arizona on Highway 69.
Yavapai Humane Society (YHS) will be one of 1,300 PetSmart stores in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to help you find your perfect match, whether it’s a dog, cat, puppy, kitten, mixed-breed or purebred. Also, joining Yavapai Humane Society at the National Adoption Event will be Miss Kitty’s Cat House, Greyhound Pets of Arizona, and Verde Valley Humane Society.
Nearly 8 million pets end up in U.S. shelters every year, and more than a third – about 8,200 every day – are euthanized. With donations and community support, Yavapai Humane Society has maintained a high live release rate of 96 percent. Your pet adoption this weekend will benefit local shelters and rescue agencies, YHS will receive $35 in adoption-reward grants from PetSmart Charities for every pet adopted in the Prescott store during this event.
“We’re so thankful for the joy that an adopted pet brings to our lives, but we know that not everyone is able to adopt,” said Ed Box, executive director of the Yavapai Humane Society “You can celebrate saving a pet’s life with a donation that will help fund adoption events like this, which play a huge role in YHS finding homes for more than 3,000 pets every year.”
How to Adopt
In addition to the PetSmart store in Prescott, Yavapai Humane Society will also be open to the public that weekend for even more available and adoptable dogs and cats that will count towards the running total of pets adopted that weekend.
