10 Ways to Celebrate National Dog Day!

26 August 2017

Today is National Dog Day!

It’s a great opportunity to celebrate your favorite pooch, or to bring home a new bff with four paws.

The Humane Society is open and ready with lots of dogs up for adoption. Take a quick drive and see which one wins your heart!

But there are other ways you can make this day count:

1. Give your pet an extra hug and dog treat.

2. Take your dog for a long walk. It’ll be good for both of you!

3. Sign your dog up for obedience classes. Did you know you can also get rattlesnake training for your dog? (Contact Dean Simmons for more information.) It might save their lives some day.

4. Check out your house. Make sure there aren’t any safety issues that can hurt your doggie. Call your vet for an appointment for an annual checkup. Make sure they're up-to-date on their shots.

5. Not ready to adopt a new pet? You can still help by making donations of toys, blankets and, of course, a few bucks to help out your local shelters. They also need lots of volunteers!

6. Check with elderly neighbors and friends to see if you can walk their dog for them. If they don’t have a dog, perhaps they’d enjoy visiting with yours!

7. Give your dog a bath and brushing. Don’t forget to check their nails! (There are clippers you can purchase just for dogs that make the nail trimming chore much easier.)

8. When is the last time you purchased a new collar and leash for your dog? Maybe today’s the day!

9. Make a donation to your local police K9 program. These dogs work hard to help keep us all safe.

10. Take some fun pictures of your dog and share them on Facebook! We’d love to see the pics on our FB pages, too! PrescotteNewsFB | PrescottValleyeNewsFB

PS: Suppose you're reading this, and the official National Dog Day has passed. Ahhh... That doesn't matter! Every day should be Dog Day, right?
