Yavapai County gets its “walk” on to benefit homeless pets at Yavapai Humane Society

PRESCOTT, Ariz., (April 16, 2018) –Yavapai Humane Society (YHS) in partnership with Findlay Subaru of Prescott presents the 7th annual Walk for the Animals for pet lovers in Northern Arizona. The event will be held on Saturday, May 19 at Mile High Middle School (300 South Granite Street, Prescott, Ariz.), and opens at 8:00 a.m.

This event is Yavapai County’s largest dog walk and it celebrates the special bond people share with their pets, and raises funds and awareness for animals in need. Donations are being collected to benefit the more than 3,000 animals YHS shelters each year, as well as the programs and services it offers to support pet owners.

Hundreds of dogs are expected to bring their people out to this premier pet lover’s event to stroll or run the 1-mile and 5K course and enjoy fun activities, which will be available through noon for all on 4 paws and 
2 legs:

Strut Your Mutt contest, where contestants can enter to win first, second, or third place prize in any of three categories: “Best costume,”  “Best trick,” or the “Owner look-alike” categories

  • A “Barketplace” of pet-friendly vendor booths
  • Dog adoptions sponsored by Cable ONE Advertising
  • An animal wellness tent offering low-cost microchips and pet health information, sponsored by Prescott Area Pet Emergency Hospital
  • A “Lure course” by Brittany AZ Rescue (a sport that allows dogs to chase a toy and leap over obstacles in an enclosed space)
  • Pet Art where your dog can dip their paws into non-toxic, washable paint and create their own custom artwork, then rinse off in a kiddie pool afterward
  • A kids’ corner with face painting and children’s activities
  • YHS Thrift Store’s pet boutique featuring all things dog and cat

Participants are invited to register online at or by visiting the shelter at 1625 Sundog Ranch Road, Prescott, Ariz. Tickets are $35 per adults and $10 for children. Registration is also available on the morning of the event. Each participant receives a packet full of great coupons and goodies from local pet-friendly businesses. The event gates open at 8:00 a.m. and the opening howl for the 1-mile and 5K courses is at 9:00 a.m.

Participants can also become fundraisers, receiving a personalized online fundraising page that they can share with friends and family to help them reach their fundraising goal. Prizes are available at various fundraising levels. For example, participants that fundraise just $25 receive an event t-shirt featuring custom artwork by Melanie Folse, an Arizona artist who specializes in pet portraits. Prizes for both individuals and for fundraising teams reach levels all the way to $10,000. Fundraisers at this top level win an overnight vacation to Lake Powell complete with Antelope Canyon tour or scenic canyon boat tour.

Up to the weeks before the event, fundraisers and business sponsors are expected to collect nearly $40,000 for YHS. The organization’s fundraising goal for the event is $50,000.
