Facility to house space for robotics testing, optics research and high-speed computation and simulation
TEMPE, Ariz. (May 4, 2016) - Sundt Construction, Inc. (www.sundt.com) has been selected to build a new classroom and laboratory facility at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona.
Frequently referred to as the “Harvard of the Sky,” the school is the world’s largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, with 125 locations worldwide.
The design-build project, which is expected to be completed in just 13 months while the campus remains open, features the addition of a 52,570-square-foot facility that will house classrooms, laboratories and an auditorium. The labs will have space for robotics testing, optics research, and high-speed computation and simulation.
“We’ll be doing a lot of off-hour work,” said Sundt Project Manager Josh Anderson. “The facility has an assortment of technical exterior finishes and interior building systems.”
The building will enhance the university’s seven primary fields of study, including applied science, aviation, business, computers and technology, engineering, space, and safety, security and intelligence.
“It’s a unique university, in general,” Anderson said. “Embry-Riddle is always exploring ways to better prepare its students for successful careers.”
The project is expected to begin this month. Sundt’s work at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University further strengthens its presence as a leader in university and laboratory construction. Other notable, ongoing projects throughout Arizona include the Biomedical Sciences Partnership Building (a joint venture with DPR Construction) in downtown Phoenix and the Arizona State University Sun Devil Stadium Transformation (a joint venture with Hunt Construction) in Tempe.
