Prescott College Names John Flicker as New President

October 30, 2014 – Prescott Ariz. – John Flicker, former president of the National Audubon Society, has been named Prescott College’s next president, effective December 1, 2014. Prescott College, a private nonprofit school, has been educating students in the environment, social justice and the liberal arts for nearly fifty years.

Flicker served as president of the National Audubon Society for 15 years from 1995 to 2010. At Audubon he brought in a new emphasis toward environmental education and social justice issues. Prior to Audubon, Flicker spent 21 years at The Nature Conservancy where he rose to the positions of General Counsel and Executive Vice President.

“Prescott College is a nationally recognized and respected institution in liberal arts, the environment and social justice,” Flicker says. “I'm honored by this opportunity and eager to become part of the Prescott community."

After a near-yearlong search, the College’s Board of Trustees tapped Flicker to take the reins from president John Van Domelen. Current chairman of the Board Dan Boyce says, “We had a great pool of talent to choose from, but John Flicker’s passion for the environment and social justice best matched the mission of Prescott College. His fundraising experience will also be a benefit to the school.”

Van Domelen will return to his role as Board Chair when Flicker arrives. He states, “It has been a privilege to serve as president for almost a year, but I am confident that John Flicker has the qualities that the Prescott College community is looking for in a leader. I have no doubt I am passing responsibility for this unique institution into very capable hands.”

The process for finding suitable candidates was highly collaborative, with a representative committee of a dozen people including students, faculty members, staff, alumni, and trustees. Co-chair of the search committee, trustee Jim Walsh notes, “We wanted to recommend the best person to take Prescott College to a new level of excellence. John Flicker clearly created that excitement and community-wide enthusiasm which will help him achieve that goal.”

The College will hold a formal inauguration during 2015.
