9-11 Memorial at PHS

13 September 2009

The kids were solemn at Prescott High School on Friday morning, as they remembered the events of 9-11.

phs911While folks at the Prescott Resort were getting up before the crack of dawn Friday morning, students at Prescott High School (PHS) were preparing for a 9/11 ceremony of their own, despite the fact that many of these students were not much older than nine or ten when it happened.

With the area around the flagpole covered with 2977 flags in memory of those who lost their lives on 9/11, Dawn Heuer, the PHS Student Body President led the memorial service.

Afterwards, Heuer explained, "It's the third year that I did this, it's something that's close to my heart, I feel. I don't think that we should ever forget, we should always remember. The people in the community love it, it's a good thing - it's just a small memorial that can make a big impact in our community."

"Student Council was here at 6:30 this morning to put 2,977 flags in the ground," Heuer continued. "It helps them kind of just stop and think, one day out of the year, and just say, "Hey, it's not all about me, it's about everyone, we're all one." It kind of helps them realize that, it kind of stops them, I think."
