Listen Up! Current Events

02 November 2018

Are you ready for a LOT of information? These podcasts will help you sort it all out.

This week we are going to try to help you keep up with the times. Only one week out from the Election we thought you might need help to keep up with current events. So we have selected a few podcasts to help you analyze the flood of information coming at you.

The Ben Shapiro Show

This has become one of my favorite conservative podcasts. Ben is far more realistic about the right side of the aisle than any other commentator I have found. He does ruffle quite a few feathers, accused of anti-semitism by the left, (he is an Orthodox Jew), attacked by the Alt-Right, (their #1 target according to the Anti-Defamation League), he is not part of Trump camp, but his view of the left is very clear. As a graduate of Harvard Law School, his legal analysis alone is worth listening to. Every day (except for Sabbath and Holy Days) he takes on the news and sifts through the media, politics, and prominent figures and stories. Now a Sunday Special has become a stop for a variety of people who are worth listening to. He is one the few conservatives in the intellectual dark web. Sometimes days ahead of other observers, he definitely makes keeping up on events easier.

Available at The Daily Wire, YouTube, iTunes, Podcast One, Sound Cloud, and probably everywhere else!

The Rubin Report

Starting on the left leaning Young Turks show, David Rubin migrated to YouTube on his own. Rubin is stakins out a position trying to revive Classical Liberalism. A weekly interview show, The Rubin Report showcases newsmakers, intellectuals, and a few celebrities. A prominent, but not exclusive, intellectual dark web perspective is still a refreshing feature.

Guests include people on the right and left, but the long form interview format, allows for everyone to have their say, without being reduced to sound bites. Frequently guests become prominent right after appearing. Sometimes they are in the news right when they are interviewed. Always thoughtful, The Rubin Report has become a regular podcast on my listening schedule.

Daily Coffee with Scott Adams

Who knew the creator of the Dilbert comic strip had his own podcast? During his daily (sometimes twice daily) podcasts, Adams uses his training as a hypnotist to analyze current events, through a lens of the art of persuasion. It's a new way to understand reality, and you might also pick up some valuable persuasion techniques along the way. If you hear pauses and interruptions, Adams is probably reading comments as they come across his screen. Most of what you will hear is spontaneous, unrehearsed and casual. The length is variable so you don't know how long the show may be. The best way to listen is while sipping from your favorite beverage vessel.

Washington Watch Radio

This is a Christian Conservative Podcast. A podcast from the Family Research Council, Washington Watch with Tony Perkins is a weekday podcast and radio program. Hosted by Tony Perkins, it follows stories and guests that might be under the radar or even ignored by the rest of the media, only to later find these same stories in the headlines and on the news. Tony Perkins brings all the resources of an experienced legislator to cover national and international issues. This show frequently gives a great deal of background that makes sense of what's happening in the nations capitol. Anyone who really wants to know what the religious influence in the country is doing, should check this out.

Available at, iTunes, and on American Family Radio stations

Townhall Review

Bringing together political commentary and analysis from leading conservative talk-radio hosts, The Townhall Review is a one stop shop for relevant news and intelligent analysis from the leading talk show hosts in the nation: Hugh Hewitt, Michael Medved, Dennis Prager, Larry Elder, Mike Gallagher and others. Most of these last around an hour. You’ll enjoy the fast-paced recap of the week’s political events Townhall Review provides. You can rely on the show to provide U.S. political, global and breaking news. New features are added as the news changes. I am adding this to my list to help me keep up.
