Today's the day. It's National Get Outdoors Day, and you can visit recreation sites within the Prescott National Forest for free, because the day-use fees will be waived.
According to Debbie Maneely, PNF Spokesperson, " This fee free day will be offered in cooperation with other agencies under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (REA); the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Land Management."
It's a nationwide event which includes these local destinations:
- Lynx Lake Recreation Area: North Shore, South Shore and Lynx Lake Ruins
- Granite Basin Recreation Area: Cayuse, Wekuvde, Boat Launch, Playa, and Metate
- Thumb Butte Recreation Area
- Alto Pit OHV Recreation Area
- Hayfield Draw OHV Recreation Area
- Mingus Day Use
- Mingus Lake Day Use
Interested in venturing a little farther away? Yes, the Grand Canyon and Montezuma Castle are included in today's event.
According to the National Park Service website, "Fee waiver includes: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise."
Can't make it today? Well, here are some additional fee waiver days planned for this year: National Public Lands Day, which is celebrated September 29, and Veteran's Day Weekend, which falls on November 10-12. Mark your calendars now!
