Phone Scam Depicting Prescott Valley Police Department

20 May 2020   Jerry Ferguson

There is a phone scam around right now that claims to be the Prescott Valley Police Department.

The Prescott Valley Police Department has been made aware of a telephone scam where the caller identifies himself as a member of the Prescott Valley Police Department “Warrants & Citation Division, 7601 Civic Circle, Prescott Valley.” The phone number the citizen is asked to contact is 1-928-224-7860. This is a VOIP (internet number) and goes to a recorded message asking the citizen to leave his name and phone number. Should you get such a call, do not return the call. Delete the call from your records.

One citizen returned the call and the phone was answered. The citizen was persuaded to submit $2,500 in gift cards in order not to be arrested on a warrant.

The police department will never ask anyone to submit any money of any form. Never provide your name, phone number, or any other identifying information to anyone who has contacted you. Provide that information only when you initiate the call and you know to whom you are speaking.

If anyone is asking you for money. It’s a SCAM! If you see or hear something suspicious, notify your local law enforcement office.

Prescott Valley Police Department can be contacted at (928) 772-9267 for non-emergencies, 911 for emergencies. Silent witness is 1-800-932-3232.
