PRESCOTT- On Thursday night in Prescott’s Courthouse Square, Prescott Valley resident Hannah Warren stepped up to the microphone to perform Adele’s Someone Like You in front of a crowd for the first time on the opening night of Prescott Idol season eight.

“I think it’s good to step out of your comfort zone…it’s good to try new things,” said Warren who mentioned her friends and mom persuaded her to give it a try. “Very nerve-racking but I loved it.”

Warren was among the fourteen performers in the first round of this season’s Prescott Idol. Every Thursday, excluding the third Thursday of every month and the week of July 4th, hopeful contestants will take the stage as part of the Summer Concert Series with the hope of an invite to the finale on September 7th.

“It’s really a feel good event,” Regional Manager of Grenax Broadcasting Melissa Byrne said. “It’s meant to be friendly and re-assuring.”

The friendly nature of the event makes singing in front of a crowd an enjoyable time for both new contestants and returners. Allison Spieker participated in Prescott Idol for the first time in 2016 and didn’t advance the finals but she returned on Thursday night to showcase her improvement.

“I was just very nervous, I didn’t feel confident enough,” Spieker said of her first audition. “This time, I felt a lot more confident. More ready to go up there and face the world.”

Spieker advises those on the fence to give it a try as she did with performance spots still open but going fast.

“Just do it, get past your fears and just go and do it,” Spieker said.

Following the performances, those in attendance can vote while others can go on Grenax Broadcasting various station websites including The Big Talker, KOLT Country, The Wolf and Rewind for the an audio clip of the audition and vote.

Even for those who don’t come out and perform, Byrne mentioned the event is fun for the whole family.

“It gives people an opportunity to come down and have some free entertainment,” said Byrne mentioning it gives children a chance to hear live music without having to go into a bar. “It gives them a chance to come out with their family and have some fun.”

While contestants must be at least thirteen-years-old to compete, Byrne mentioned the details for a Prescott Idol Jr. will be coming in the future.
