Alleged Fraud Attempted at Local Walmarts

28 November 2017   Deputy Chief Amy Bonney

Three Arrested for Recent Fraud Scheme

On Thursday November 16th, 2017 the Prescott Police Department began an investigation into a series of frauds which had occurred at both Prescott Walmart locations. Investigators determined that 39 year old Landa Anderson, and 25 year old Jernise Gilchrist, both of Fort Worth, Texas had fraudulently loaded over $3,000 onto Walmart money network cards by deceiving the clerks with fraudulent tactics. The two were seen leaving both stores in a vehicle driven by the third suspect, 31 year old Christopher Snider, also of Texas.

The two Prescott Walmart stores notified other Walmarts of this activity and later in the evening the two women were observed attempting to commit the same crime at the Wal-Mart in Prescott Valley. Prescott Valley Officers responded and apprehended all three suspects.

All three suspects were later booked into the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office for charges including fraudulent schemes and possession of marijuana.

The investigation revealed that the suspects have been committing similar frauds in other areas of the state and perhaps other states as well. Prescott Police Department detectives will be continuing the investigation and working cooperatively with local and federal resources to determine the scope and nature of the fraud as a whole.

Anyone with additional information is requested to call Detective Jessica Belling, at the Prescott Police Department, (928)777-1926.
