Ken Bennett Turns in Campaign Signatures for Governor

30 May 2018

Former Secretary of State Ken Bennett is turning in signatures today to get on the ballot as a candidate for Governor.

According to Bennett, he is turning in 7800 signatures, about 20% more than required.

"I feel very confident I can withstand any challenges to my candidacy," Bennett said.

Bennett announced his candidacy on April 21, after Governor Doug Ducey announced his plan to give teachers a 20% raise.

Bennett said it was a challenge to collect the needed signatures but that he had support from, "…a lot of volunteers, dedicated close family members and friends." In order to collect the signatures needed in such a short period of time, he also had some paid signature collectors helping him.

"Usually it would take months to collect the signatures," Bennett said. "We had 5 weeks to do so."

"It’s important that the people have a choice," Bennett said. "The truth matters and people have not been told the truth by Governor Ducey. I want to make sure that the people have a choice in the Republican primary in August."

Here is the statement from the Bennett campaign:

It's Official - Ken Bennett is on the ballot!

We are on the ballot!  Thank you Arizonans for your incredible effort in securing not only the required number of signatures to make me a candidate for Governor for Arizona but a cushion of 26%  I am humbled by your support and inspired that Republican issues still win in Arizona.

I am running because the truth matters and we are not being told the truth in critical areas.  My primary opponent, Governor Ducey, has forgotten that this is a Republican state and is caving to outside interest groups on gun control, outrageous budget spending, NAFTA, DACA, and Obamacare.

I am an effective Republican and will fight for our shared values.  I look forward to spending the coming months meeting and talking with you on how the budget can be structurally balanced and how important Arizona is for President Trump’s priorities of securing the border and fair trade.  As for Obamacare, when I say I don’t like it I meanall of it, so I will tell our AZ Senators to give a ‘thumbs up’ on the repeal!

Arizona has always been my home and my community ties are deep, so I will see you in our neighborhoods and answer to you, not just to get your vote but to live with the results of the decisions I make as your next Governor.  You are my donors and I will fight for you.  Let’s keep AZ ‘red’ because Ken Bennett ran on Republican principles.   Please sign up online to receive updates and get involved.  It is time to get to work. Help me drain the swamp – in Arizona.
