Charges likely in shooting incident

On March 3, 2019 at approximately 3:52 AM Prescott Police Officers responded to an address in the 600 block of La Paloma Lane after receiving a report of a residence being burglarized, while the homeowner was home.  During the response, additional information was received that someone inside the home had discharged a weapon at the intruder.

Upon the Officers arrival, the reporting party told Officers that her estranged husband, Ryan Welch a 27 year old Prescott man, had tried to force his way into the house.  Kyle Fox, a 32 year old Prescott Valley man, who was inside the home during this time, said that he discharged a handgun at the suspect, striking him.

Fox told Officers that Welch fled the scene on foot.  A short time later, a 911 call was received from a resident who lives in the 600 block of Mingus Avenue, which is very close to La Paloma Lane.  This caller stated that someone was in their backyard and knocking on the door.  A search was conducted of the area and Welch was found hiding in a back yard.

Welch was taken into custody and immediately treated at the scene for his wounds.  He was later flown to a Phoenix area hospital and is currently undergoing medical treatment for the injuries that he sustained.  His injuries are not expected to be life threatening.  Welch is expected to be booked for several felonies upon his release from the hospital.

Prescott Police Department investigators are continuing to gather statements and process evidence, as this investigation continues.
