Two hours before the first night of the rodeo kick off, eager fans gathered together at the top of the stands. They were all there for a specific reason – the Behind the Chutes Tour of the rodeo grounds. This unique adventure allowed a close-up, one-of-a-kind perspective for those that signed up. Guests were greeted by the Prescott Frontier Days General Manager J.C. Trujillo who started the tour by sharing local history of the rodeo with the group.
Guests were led beyond the stands for an up-close view of the cattle and horses used in the rodeo events and given information on how the contestants drew the animal in which they would be chasing down in the arena. The tour continued on past the cattle, to a pen inhabited by massive bulls and even a zebra! Guests were taken to a private area only the contestants of the rodeo are able to access and shown the different equipment used on the horses and bulls during rodeo events.
Some guests expressed concern for the safety and well-being of the animals and were shown first-hand the different items, the ropes used and the equipment to ensure the animals are not harmed and never in danger. Keeping horses, calves, and bulls safe is a high priority of the Prescott Frontier Days staff, contestants and volunteers.
Guests were able to meet some of the contestants and even stop for a picture with them before moving on to the Diamond Z Ranch wagon which is pulled by massive Shire horses. Guests were able to see up close the beauty and size of the horses and learn about their care and how they are included in the rodeo events. This evening’s event wrapped up with a surprise visit with Mayor Greg Mengarelli as well as Miss Prescott Frontier Days and her Lady in Waiting.
