Update: 6:30 PM from US Forest Service - 

Location:  16 miles south of Prescott, AZ on the Bradshaw Ranger District (T10N, R2W, S5) 
Start Date:  July 14th
Size:  Approximately 6,450 acres 
Percent Contained:  0
Cause:  Lightning
Vegetation:  Grass and Brush
Resources Assigned:  7 Airtankers, 4 Helicopters, 7 Hot Shot Crews, 6 Type 2 IA Crews, 2 Dozers, and 18 Engines

Update: 5:16 PM from Yavapai County Sheriff's Office - 

Regarding the Cellar Fire...

This is to advise of the following Code Red notifications to the indicated communities - this is a "Ready" notification only. There are no mandatory evacuation orders at this time.

“This is a Ready Message from the Sheriff’s Office. There is a wild fire in the area. There are no mandatory evacuations at this time. This message is for the communities of: Walker, Groom Creek, Wolf Creek, Potato Patch and Indian Creek. Stay aware of the latest news and information from local media, your local fire department and public safety officials. You can also visit the Sheriff's Office Facebook page for updates. Thank you. “

This 'Ready' message also includes the community of Crown King.

An update on the fire condition is expected from the forest service later today...

Update 9:25: The Type 1 Incident Management Team wil take command of the fire on Thursday, July 18.


Pine Flat is under a CODE RED alert. There are no evacuations in effect, but residents should stay aware. For information on Code Red issued, please call 928.771.3321.

The Cellar Fire is burning in grass and brush, but moving east/northeast into ponderosa pine west of Senator Highway (FR 52).  It is being managed as a Type 3 incident, however a Type 1 Incident Management Team is expected to take command of the fire on Wednesday, July 18 at 6:00 am. 

Last night, crews made good progress establishing an anchor point at the southwest corner of the fire.  Today ground resources will be working on direct line construction with the use of air support.   As we work on a Closure Order for the incident, we ask that folks stay off Senator Highway (FS Road 52) and County Road 177.

Weather Concerns: On alert for hot, dry windy conditions that may affect the fire’s behavior and direction of growth.

  • 3 Helicopters
  • 6 Hot shot crews
  • 2 Dozers
  • 6 Engines and water tenders

Tuesday Activities: 

  • Suppression efforts focused on the north and west flanks of the fire
  • Dozer and hand lines constructed
  • Burnout operations to reinforce the effectiveness of constructed lines

Expect: 

  • Very visible smoke for the next few days in Prescott and surrounding communities

Road closures:

  • Junction of Forest Road 52 and 261 south to Junction of Forest Road 52 and Forest Road 361
  • Forest Road 52 east to Crown King
  • Mayer-Bolander Road (Country Road 177) closed from Pine Flat West to Forest Road 52 (Senator Highway)
