Mid-Century Modern Night Rises Again in the Crystal Hall

Showtime: Thursday, October 3, 2019. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Admission at the door $7.00

Hey all you cool cats and kitties, Mid Century Modern Night is back at The Elks Performing Arts Center on Thursday October 3rd. Join us in the Crystal Hall at 5:30 pm for a pre Halloween dance. It will be antsville and that ain't no apple butter!

Music for you to shake, rattle and roll will be provided by those purveyors of "Wickedly Swingin Sound" The Mingus Mountain BopTet! Food will be for sale from The Hawk and Hound, not your average blanket. A beer and wine bar will also be open. Open seating with a cabaret style, no reserved seats. Arrive early, share a table and meet new friends.

There will be a costume contest with prizes for the best dressed! But don't get the zorros, costumes are not required to cut the rug or groove to the band.

So all you flutter bums out there, grab your best classy chassis an plan on the best fat city event, you got it made in the shade..........We will razz your berries! No fake out here.

Mile High Comedy Theater

Mile High Comedy Theater is back with an evening of brand new stand-up and improvisational comedy! The evening will feature stand-up comedy and improv games with the cast of Mile High Comedy Theater. If you like improvisational comedy like “Whose Line is It Anyway”, you’re going to LOVE Mile High’s brand of comedy! YOU become a part of the show too, as your suggestions help make each show completely new and original. The doors open at Prescott Elks Theater at 6pm on Saturday, October 5th and the fun begins at 7pm!

Matt Santos is a comedian and storyteller based in Prescott, AZ, who draws on his checkered past, growing up the youngest of six kids, and being the most irresponsible father in town. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, he spent the last 35 years as a photojournalist and humorist in the print media world, venturing into broadcast media as a talk show host at KQNA Radio in Prescott and the host/producer of The Mile High Show podcast available on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and all the major podcast outlets.

The Mile High Show has been a featured podcast at the Big Pine Comedy Festival, where Matt has also served as Festival Photographer since 2016.

Kevin Rose is a Prescott High school graduate and Arizona native. Stand up comedy started for him on a dare while serving in the United States Army. His stand up career has taken him throughout the US for 15 years. Where there was a mic, there was a Kevin honing his craft.

The Improv, Stand Up Live, River Center Comedy Club, The Loony Bin, Comedy for the Troops, Kevin Rose Comedy All Stars, and Stand up for a Cause are just a few of the many venues that have witnessed his eclectic and silly comedy.

Turnabout Ball Prescott in the Crystal Hall

Showtime: Thursday, October 10, 2019, 6 PM

4am Productions in partnership with Preskitt Cabaret Troupe is organizing a fundraiser for a local organization Greater Yavapai County LGBTQ Coalition (GYCC) and the Preskitt Cabaret Troupe. This will be an event coinciding with National Coming Out Day and a celebration of the LGBTQ+ communities of Yavapai County. Come join us for dancing and fun!

Join us on the 3rd floor of The Elks Performing Arts Center's Crystal Hall. Doors will open at 5:00 pm and the show begins at 6 PM.

Aretha: Long Live the Queen

Aretha Franklin isn’t just an icon of American soul music – she’s THE icon of American soul music. The legacy she created paved the way and inspired musicians from all walks of life. Tour de force performer Crystal Stark lovingly pays tribute to the multi-Grammy winning legend in Aretha: Long Live the Queen. The show will feature Aretha’s most powerful hits, introspective ballads, and everything else along the way. It’s a tribute fit for a queen.

Open Mic Night in the Sundance Room, third floor of the Elks Theatre

Showtime: Wednesday, October 16, 2019, 7 PM

AZ Wordsmith is hosting Open Mic Night on the third Wednesday of each month beginning September 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the third floor Sundance room. Writers of fiction, nonfiction and memoir are invited to share their original work, no poetry or music. Reading time is limited to ten minutes and names will be drawn to determine the order and number of readers. This is an opportunity for prose writers to be heard and make their stories come alive.

Those who are just in the mood for listening are welcome to come grab a seat and enjoy some inspiring tales from area wordsmiths. Age is no limit. Adults and young writers are encouraged to share their work.

The readings will go for an hour followed by time for meeting and greeting.

Cost is $5

The event organizers, Janet A. Hopkins, Sue Favia and Lee Reeves are writers in the Prescott area interested in creating an entertaining evening where listeners will be treated to a variety of stories to inform, amuse, and move an audience of fellow writers and story-lovers.

Maria Muldaur

Showtime: Sunday, October 20th, 7 PM

Maria Muldaur is a 2019 Grammy nominated American folk, roots and blues singer. Beginning her career as a member of the Even Dozen Jug Band (also featuring John Sebastian and David Grisman), Muldaur was a staple in the Greenwich Village folk revival of the early 1960’s. In 1973, her first solo album included the mega hit “Midnight at the Oasis” which charted at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and is one of the most memorable songs of the 1970’s. Muldaur, has since released over forty album exploring a range of American Roots Music, including blues, jazz, R&B, gospel, big band and others as well as releasing several award winning children’s albums. Albums, that combined have been granted six Grammy nominations and several Blues Music Award nominations. In the process, Maria has collaborated with everyone from Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John, Stevie Wonder, Haogy Carmichael, The Grateful Dead and countless others. In fall 2018, Maria released her first new album in five years Don’t you Feel my Leg, a tribute to legendary blues and jazz singer Blue Lu Barker. This album has notched a 2019 Grammy nominated for Best Traditional Blues Album.
