On Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 6:48 PM, officers from the Chino Valley Police Department responded to a bicyclist laying in a ditch in the 500 block of west Center Street. Officers determined a vehicle had struck the bicyclist and fled the scene. The bicyclist was identified as a 16-year-old male who is a Chino Valley resident. The male was airlifted due to his injuries. The male is listed in stable condition.
Chino Valley officers and detectives were able to recover vehicle parts from the scene. Through investigation the make and model of the involved vehicle was identified as a 2012-2013 GMC or Chevrolet Pickup. Further investigation led officers to 43-year-old Prescott resident Chad Avilla.
On Sunday, October 27, 2019, with assistance from Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Chad was located at his residence. Chad was taken into custody without incident and the involved vehicle, a white 2013 GMC Sierra, was recovered at Chad’s residence.
Chad was booked into the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office jail on charges of Aggravated Assault, Endangerment, Failure to stop for an injury accident and failure to assist and render first aide.
