Red Cross Blood Drive 2

November 13th, 2019 10 AM to 3 PM

Location: The Elks Performing Arts Center, Crystal Hall, 3rd floor

The Elks Second Annual (this year) Red Cross Blood Drive--Join The Elks Theatre and Performing Arts Center as we partner with the American Red Cross for our second annual blood drive. On November 13th we’ll roll up our collective sleeves again due to the outstanding response to our June blood drive and help save lives! We will proudly partner with the American Red Cross again to hold our second blood drive. We will have expanded staffing to be sure that we will be able to assist everyone that comes in to donate this November. The Red Cross has over 130 years of experience providing humanitarian aid – including more than 70 years of supplying blood to those in need.

Each pint of blood we collect can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. What a great way to pay it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country. We are very excited about the drive and I hope you are too.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact The Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 about joining the team, or reach out to either of us with any questions you may have. There are many ways you can help, but most importantly we hope you come out to donate. It’s not every day that we do something that has such a lifesaving impact. Let’s blow this out of the water! Thank you for making The Elks and The Red Cross what they are. We will be looking forward to seeing you at the blood drive.

No appointment is required to donate. To schedule an appointment please visit redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code elkstheatre, or call; 1-800-Red-Cross, 1-800-733-2767. Please donate, give the gift of life! We’re looking forward to seeing many more of you on November 13th.

From the Rocks to the River

November 14th, 2019 6:30 PM

Water connects the Granite Dells to the Verde River. The rocky Dells, the graceful grasslands of Chino Valley, and the lush Verde River are one interconnected landscape, all threatened by unsustainable urban sprawl. In this powerful and uplifting evening program, local conservation leaders will educate you on the latest developments in the campaigns to save the Granite Dells and the Verde River, and provide you with opportunities to get involved in whatever way you can. Notably, this will be the 100th screening of the documentary film Viva La Verde and filmmaker Hugh Denno will be present to discuss the film and share lessons learned from the continued fight to preserve the Verde River. This is more than a movie - it's a movement!

Joe Trudeau, Southwest Advocate with the Center for Biological Diversity and Conservation Director of Save the Dells, will describe the ecological and hydrological connections between the Dells and the Verde River. Gary Beverly, Chair of the Yavapai Group of the Sierra Club and President of Citizens Water Advocacy Group, will explain how Prescott's water policies promote population growth, reduce open space, and threaten to degrade the base flow of the Verde River. Amber Fields, Chairman of Save the Dells, will give an update on the campaign to save a critical 500 acres from development and creating a 5,000-acre Granite Dells Regional Park and Preserve. Damon Myers will introduce the Granite Dells Preservation Foundation which will be the long-term advocate for the proposed Regional Park and Preserve. An informal Q&A will follow the film.

Inspiring speeches, compelling visual imagery, an amazing film, and good people coming together will ignite in you a sense of duty to join the movement to protect what’s best about the Prescott region.

Doors open at 6 pm with live music and Granite Dells art on display. Have a beer or glass of wine and settle in for a lively program!

Tickets available online at Prescott Elks Theatre; or by calling the box office at; 928.777.1370.

narnia 11-16-19.JPG

Narnia: The Musical

November 16th, 2019 2 PM and 7 PM

The first and most famous story of The Chronicles of Narnia has become a musical presentation of this unique, enchanted world filled with creatures and spirits of myth and fable, both good and evil, demonic and transcendent.

The principal inhabitants, however, are the intelligent talking animals ruled by the majestic King Aslan, the great lion of Narnia. Though Aslan is often absent from the land (so that his very  existence is doubted by some), he returns when the need for him is greatest. And entering Narnia at a moment of high adventure are some children—plucked from our world in unexpected ways to help Narnia and to learn from their Narnia odyssey lessons of courage, unselfishness and wisdom that will help them grow.

Narnia wants to sing, and from the excitement of the opening song, "Aslan's on the Move," to the joy of "Narnia (You Can't Imagine)," your spirits will soar with all those in Narnia.

Presented by One Stage Family Theatre One Stage Family Theatre

flip orley 11-16-19.jpg

The Flip Orley Show

November 16th, 2019 7 PM

Flip’s incredibly FUNNY show draws anxious fans to clubs across the country where they storm the stages, hoping to be among the lucky volunteers to grab a seat and become the stars of the show. The IMPROV and major comedy clubs across the country have had other hypnotists perform over the years, but none have come close to replicating the incredible crowds, amazing creativity, or quirky sense of humor that Flip brings to each and every one of his shows.

Orley is adamant about not embarrassing his volunteers. He prefers his audiences to laugh with the volunteers, not at them. He takes great care in making sure that the stars of his show remember everything, and have as much fun as his audience. Call your friends! This is a MUST SEE show!

Limited seating available in the intimate Elks Performing Arts Center's Crystal Hall 3rd floor event space!

Tickets available online at Prescott Elks Theatre; or by calling the box office at 928.777.1370.

Open Mic Night

November 20th, 2019 7 PM

AZ Wordsmith is hosting Open Mic Night on the third Wednesday of each month in the third floor Sundance room.

Writers of fiction, nonfiction and memoir are invited to share their original work, no poetry or music. Reading time is limited to ten minutes and names will be drawn to determine the order and number of readers. This is an opportunity for prose writers to be heard and make their stories come alive.

Those who are just in the mood for listening are welcome to come grab a seat and enjoy some inspiring tales from area wordsmiths. Age is no limit. Adults and young writers are encouraged to share their work. The readings will go for an hour followed by time for meeting and greeting.

Cost is $5.

The event organizers, Janet A. Hopkins, Sue Favia and Lee Reeves are writers in the Prescott area interested in creating an entertaining evening where listeners will be treated to a variety of stories to inform, amuse, and move an audience of fellow writers and story-lovers.
