It’s Another Sweep for the Lady Roughriders

For the third consecutive series, Yavapai softball swept their opponent. This time, YC shut out the visitors, Paradise Valley Community College, 5-0 and 10-0. Yavapai is now 14-6 overall and 9-5 in ACCAC play. Paradise Valley falls to 1-11 on the year and in conference action.

Thursday was a day Amy Robinson will set aside for the scrapbook as Robinson threw a no-hitter in YC’s 5-0 victory over the Pumas. It is the second no-hitter on the season for the Riders. Dustie Durham threw a no-no last Saturday against Gateway Community College.

No Paradise Valley batter was able to locate Robinson's pitches during the game. Robinson threw a no-hitter, striking out seven batters and walking none while recording her momentous feat.

Mikayla Newham went a perfect 2-2 at the dish for the Roughriders. She singled in the second and third innings. Karissa Pena, Lindsey Smith and Savana Ramirez each had two hits in the victory.

The Roughriders used a seven-run explosion in the fourth inning lifted to the 10-0 win in the nightcap.

YC scored in the fourth on an RBI single by Karissa Pena, a sacrifice fly by Dustie Durham, a three-run double by Lindsey Smith, an RBI double by Nicole Matta, and an RBI single by Jessica Mesa.

Smith racked up four RBIs on two hits for Lady Roughriders. Newham was a perfect 3 for 3 and Smith and Matta each had two hits.

Dustie Durham kept Paradise Valley off the scoreboard for all five innings she was in the circle. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on four hits while ringing up five.

The Roughriders went up for good in the first, scoring one run on an RBI single by Andrea Sotelo.

Yavapai  piled on two more runs in the bottom of the third. The inning looked promising, as Sydney Forray doubled, scoring Durham to kick things off. That was followed up by Smith's single, bringing home Forray.

Yavapai continues conference play on Saturday, February 27th at Scottsdale Community College (3-9, 3-17). In four meetings last season, YC beat the Artichokes three times. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
