NAU Lumberjacks Score 17 Unanswered Goals in Win over Knights

23 October 2016

For the second night in a row, the Northern Arizona University (NAU) Lumberjacks schooled the California Lutheran University (CAL Lutheran) Knights in hockey.

The final score was 17 - 0. No, it wasn’t a football game, that was a hockey game between the NAU Lumberjacks (Jacks) and the CAL Lutheran Knights. That came after a Lumberjacks 16-2 win over Cal Lutheran the night before. For Jacks fans that love to see that puck hit the net, it was a match made in heaven.

It was #9 Christopher Barrett that scored the first goal of the game in just a little over 5 minutes. Barrett would also score the last goal of the game, achieving a hat trick on the night. #13 Max Mahood also earned a hat trick after scoring a goal in each of the three periods. All in all, ten of the Jacks’ players got a chance to score. The first period ended at 6-0, the second at 12-0, and five more goals were scored in the last period.

The Jacks goalie, #1 Joshua Nolan just didn’t have a lot to do, although he fended off 17 shots on goal.

Goalies for the Knights, tried their best, but the Jacks applied heavy pressure, taking 64 shots on goal.

Next week, the Jacks (5-3) tackle challenger Grand Canyon University (1-8) at the Prescott Valley Events Center on October 28, 29. Get your tickets here.

Saturday’s game will honor Cancer Awareness. The arena will be open from 8 AM - 2 PM on the 28th to allow fans to ice-paint the name of a loved one who has been affected by cancer in the arena. The event is sponsored by Creekside Painting and Simon Med.

And for youth hockey lovers, today (Sunday, October 23) you can catch your fill of high school hockey games for free. There are four games scheduled starting at 9:30
