Ruff Reimagined

Celebration during soccer match marks mascot’s 1973 debut

Yavapai College welcomed a new costumed mascot, “’Ol’ Ruff,” at the start of fall semester. The original, endearing character on a white horse was created in the fall of 1973 by then-student artist Yvonne Johnson. Earlier this year, the college reimagined Ruff, debuting his updated persona in both graphic and costumed-human form. The college is celebrating both Ruff’s legacy and his 45th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 13, during halftime of the Roughrider Soccer game at Ken Lindley Field. Game time is 6 p.m. The first 100 people through the gates will get a birthday gift – a Roughrider bandana!
