Roughriders Baseball Season Concludes with 37-19 Overall Record

The Roughriders lost a tough one in overtime, ending their season.

The Roughrider baseball season came to a halt on Saturday afternoon in the NJCAA Region I Division Championship Game. YC fell to the Vaqueros from Central Arizona College, 7-4 in extra innings.

The Roughriders took and early 2-0 lead on a Christian Encarnacion-Strand 2-run home run in the third inning. YC plated another run in the fourth inning when Gianni Tomasi scored on a Vaquero error.

Central Arizona tied the game up in the fifth inning with a 3-run home run and Yavapai regained the lead when Tommy Sacco chased home Dalton Daily with a single. In the top of the sixth inning, Central Arizona tied the game up again with a home run from the leadoff hitter.

The game remained tied through the regulation nine innings but in the top of the tenth inning got the first two runners on with a walk and a single and then the big blow came next with a towering home run to right field. The Roughriders went down in order in the bottom of the tenth inning to conclude the game.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand was 2 for 4 with two runs batted in and Dalton Daily was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.

The Vaqueros advance to the NJCAA West Region District at a site yet to be determined.

The Roughriders conclude the 2019 season with a 37-19 overall record.
