Prescott Badgers Lose Rivalry Game to Bradshaw Mountain

12 September 2010

It was a tough night for the Prescott Badgers and their fans, losing to the Bradshaw Mountain Bears with a score of 49-6. Includes photos and video interview with Coach Beneitone.

coletouchdownAny way you look at it, the Prescott High School Badgers had an ugly game last Friday night in their rivalry match against the Bradshaw Mountain Bears. The final score: Bradshaw won, 49-6.

Here's a few of the stats for the Badgers just to get them over with:

  • Quarterbacks getting sacked: 3
  • Interceptions thrown: 4
  • Fumbles: 6 or was it 7?
  • Touchdowns: 1
  • Extra points: 0

Ouch.

Okay, enough of that. Every team has a bad game or two from time to time. The point is, they must recover and move past Friday night if they are to have any success this season. The Badgers can do that, and they've proven they can be resilient.

There were a couple of glimmers of hope worth noting. After a demoralizing first quarter which left the Badgers in an unenviable hole at 0-28, they only gave up 2 more TDs in the second quarter and just 1 more in the entire second half. Four of the Badger starting players didn't play the first quarter due to team discipline. Once those players came in, the team seemed to stabilize a little bit. They even forced a couple of fumbles from the Bears.

As Badgers Coach Lou Beneitone noted, the team never gave up, they didn't quit. The sole touchdown was run in by quarterback Cole Johnson with about 4 minutes left in the game.

And, let's not to take away from the Bradshaw Bears at all. They played a very nice game; demonstrating poise, talent, speed and an ability to capitalize on mistakes. They earned their victory, make no mistake about that.

Next week, the Badgers are at home to face the Flagstaff Eagles, who currently have a 0-3 record.

The first three games of the season are non-conference games, and do not affect whether or not the Badgers will get into the playoffs.

Afterwards, Coach Beneitone spoke with the media:
