Wednesday afternoon the stadium at Prescott High School was the scene of a hard fought and well played freshman football game. Although the Badgers eventually won, the outcome was in doubt until the third quarter when they scored 12 unanswered points, leading to an 18 to 6 victory.
Outstanding Badger players in this weeks effort were: on offence, Kaine Bayze #83, Cole Roberts, #7, Chris Wright #23. Many other players worked together on the line and in the backfield to make many good running plays work.
Defensive players deserving of mention included: Alex Knickerbocker #42, Anthony Laursen #9 , Jared Tiefenthaler#40, and Chris Parker #21. The fact that at least 14 different players were mentioned as making tackles shows that the defense is really working together.
Although Mingus moved the ball well on many occasions, they had difficulty in the red zone, where Prescott put together some fine defensive work. The Mingus quarterback was able to complete several key passes in the second quarter, but proved unable to get the ball into the end zone.
The kicking game of both teams was made difficult by the strong gusty winds, but at least it didn't rain as it clearly was doing on the south and east sides of town. The sunset behind Thumb Butte was spectacular and a full moon shone on the satisfied Badger fans as they exited the stadium.
