Christopherson's bunt scores winning run in dramatic fashion

The Prescott Badgers rallied from a three run deficit in the final two innings to beat the McClintock Chargers on a rainy day at Prescott High School 8-7.

The Badgers took an early lead in the bottom of the first after Dawson Winslow doubled and scored on a single by Kody Jones.

The weather was a factor in the second inning as the rain came down harder. The Chargers took advantage scoring three runs, starting off with a double by Ben Wiley. Jonah Wiley singled, but it was a pair of wild pitches, and three errors that put McClintock on top 3-1.

Prescott picked up one run in the bottom of the inningwith out a hit. Cole Kelley walked and advanced on three wild pitches, allowing him to score, making it 3-2.

Mcclintock added a run in the fifth on a double by Sergio Jimenez and an RBI single by Ben Wiley. Jose Chairez came in the game for Prescott to relieve starting pitcher Griffin Hays, who went 4 2/3 innings allowing four runs, (one earned), seven hits, striking out three, and walking two.

The Badgers put a twin spot on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Dawson Winslow walked followed by a double by Jose Chairez. Matt Mendibles sacrifice fly scored Winslow. Kody Jones doubled in Chairez, tying the game at four.

Things did not look so good for the Badgers as the Chargers took a three run lead in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom half, the Badgers got a two out single by Dawson Winslow, followed by a walk to Joey Christopherson, setting the table for Jose Chairez, who hit the ball hard into the right centerfield gap scoring both Winslow and Christopherson. Prescott left the tying run at third, now trailing only 7-6.

Chairez took care of the Chargers in the top of the seventh, leaving the Badgers to come up with some heroics to extend their season. Kody Jones came up and belted a ball that went off the centerfielders glove. Jones stopped at second, representing the tying run. With one out, Taylor Goffena was hit by a pitch and went to first base. Jake Schulz came in to run for Goffena. McClintock coach Paul Mather had seen enough and went to reliever Mario Munoz. Cole Kelly singled to center scoring Jones to tie the game at seven. Justin Warren walked to load the bases. Joey Christopherson came up with two outs, and suprised about everybody, laying down a perfect bunt towards the third baseman, scoring Schulz for the game winner.
