PRESCOTT- The Badgers (21-9, 8-1 sectional) continued their success at home this season as the team swept Mingus (3-12, 2-7 sectional) in three sets on Tuesday night at Prescott High School.
It has been a struggling season so far for Mingus but midway through the first set, the Marauders were keeping up with the streaking Badgers.
As both teams went back and forth in the first set, Badgers coach Josiah Ramirez called a timeout and asked the players about the attitude being portrayed on the court.
“They were honest and said it could be better,” said Ramirez after the win. “I told them that they need to take control of that environment and they need to make that change because they can control that change.”
The timeout worked for the team as the Badgers raced to the finish line to take set one and continued the success with a 25-10 set two victory and a 25-11 set three win to complete the sweep.
It was another wonderful night for the senior captain Abby Smith who led the team in kills with 11 while Daphne Skinner, Ashlynn Uvila and Alex Koehler each added six to the total.
On the defensive side of the ball, three players added double digit digs in the victory with Abbey Smith leading the team with 14 while Grace Hendricks picked up 11 and Karlee Holliday added 10.
The Badgers leave the friendly environment of Prescott High School and head out onto the road Wednesday for a 6:00pm match start against the rival Bradshaw Mountain Bears (5-20, 1-7 sectional) at Bradshaw Mountain High School.
