Badgers Wrap Up Region Play With 12-2 Win Over Mohave

The Prescott Badgers put themselves in a good position for the post season with a 10-2 win over the Mohave Thunderbirds, on Senior Day at Prescott High School. Seven Badgers were recognized with their families.

The Thunderbirds struck first when Andrew Avalos just beat out a ball for an infield single.  Jaedyn Eastman's one out double scored Avalos to make it 1-0. The Badgers came right back scoring five in the bottom of the first. Jacob Police lined a triple and scored on a wild pitch to start things off. Ashton Hubbs walked and also scord on a wild pitch, and it was 2-1 Badgers. Both Jake Schulz and Korey Schwartz walked and stole bases setting up a two run double by Ray Chairez and it was 4-1. Ryanb Mickelson knocked in Chairez for a 5-1 lead after one inning.

Jake Schulz, one of seven seniors, left his mark on the game with a two run homer in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-1. Jake Schulz said, "It was an elevated pitch and I just went with. Senior Day was awesome, getting everyone out there to play with all the families here. It was great to see Tyler Bowen out there. He is such a great clubhouse guy."

Schulz who started on the mound, threw three innings, allowing one run, on two hits, and striking out three. Zach Lyon came into pitch the fourth allowing a run on two hits. Ryan Mickelson closed out the final two innings. Coach Kent Winslow said, "The game plan was to get Jake some work but take him so he will be ready on Monday. We knew what to expect from Mohave and it worked out."

The Badgers got the run and more back in the fourth. Ray Chairez doubled in Krupnick and Schwartz who had singled. Ryan Mickelson doubled in Chairez for an 11-2 lead.

The game ended with one out in the bottom of the sixth when the Badgers scored. Cody Atkins singled and scored on a Slater Krupnick single for the ten run rule.

Prescott (9-1) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (15-8) overall will have one mor game before the playoffs begin. The Badgers will travel to Seton Catholic for a makeup game on Monday at 3:45pm. After that, depending on where the PowerPoint rankings fall, will determine if Prescott will host a game next week on Thursday or Saturday.

Varsity Softball

The Badgers lost a close one on Thursday afternoon in a 4-3 decision at Mohave. 

Prescott trailed 4-0 before putting three runs across in the bottom of the third to get within one. Makayla Reyes had an RBI single. Tessa Eppele had a two hit game. Dana Seavey, Danner Cozens, and Makayla Reyes all scored. The Badgers were held to all singles in the contest.

The Badgers will play their final game today at Flagstaff. Game time is 3:45pm.
