Badgers Look to Ground Rockets

06 September 2019

Bradshaw Mountain hits the road, while Chino Valley is back at home

Moon Valley Rockets (0-1) at Prescott Badgers (0-2), Ken Lindley Field, Prescott, 7pm

After a pair of ten point loses, to top 10 division 4 teams, the Prescott Badgers will seek their first win at the host the Moon Valley Rockets.

The Rockets come into this game after suffering a 50-0 home loss to Desert Edge last week. Moon Valley trailed 44-0 at the half. Quarterback Michael Vazquez completed 7 of 10 for 37 yards. The Rockets ground game struggled in only gaining 18 yards in 27 carries. A pair of senior receivers, Eric Bankhead Jr. and Brayden Crotz, had four receptions a piece. Michael Vazquez led the team in tackles with 12.

The Badgers lost to Canyon del Oro 23-13 last week after leading 13-7 in the second quarter. Sylas Espitia rushed for the two Prescott touchdowns. The Badger defense did a good job last week to keep that game within reach till the final minute. Sam Giordan, Nathan Wright, Ethan Pena, and Rhett Pearce all had double digit tackles, including assists. Prescott recorded six sacks, three by Rhett Pearce. Sam Giordan, Luke McCauslin, and Aaron Greene had one each.

Look for the Badger defense to control the Moon Valley running game, forcing them to put the ball in the air. Prescott moved the ball better on the ground than through the air last week.

Game time temperature should be *82 with a slight breeze.

Bradshaw Mountain Bears (1-1) at Youngker Roughriders (0-1), Youngker H.S., 7pm

The Bears a coming off a 55-21 win over Shadow Mountain, while Youngker fell to Peoria 55-7.

The Roughriders took it on the chin last week and did very little to help their cause. Youngker committed six turnovers while giving up nearly 200 yards on the ground and another hundred through the air.

The Bears looked like a fine oiled machine most of the time in blowing out Shadow Mountain.  Bradshaw Mountain rushed fir 227 yards, led by quarterback Josh Grant with 81 yards. Titus King added 79 and three touchdowns. Elijah Acuna scored two touchdowns on 57 yards rushing.

Grant had fair success through the air completing 32% of his pass attempts for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Both TDs scored by Alex Cabral.

Look for the Bears to go right at Youngker, in hopes of taking the Roughriders out early. Look for game time temps around *103 with a slight breeze.

Tuba City Warriors (0-1) at Chino Valley Cougars (0-2), Chino Valley HS, 7pm

The Warriors dropped their opener at Red Mesa 40-12 last week. The Warriors trailed 18-6 in the third, before Red Mesa scored 22 in the final quarter.

Tuba City is led by quarterback Justin Dash who completed 54% of his passes for j54 yards, but had three costly interceptions. Seth Brown averaged 10 yards a carry in his 90 yard performance.

Chino Valley is looking for their first win of the season after dropping a 46-0 setback to Valley Christian last week.

Game time temperature of *84 with a light breeze is forecasted.
