Badgers Travel To Mingus

01 November 2019

Chino Valley visits Northwest Christian; Bradshaw’s regular season is finished.

Prescott Badgers (4-1), (6-3) at Mingus Marauders (0-5), (0-9), Mingus H.S., Cottonwood, 7pm

Last Season: Mingus 12, Prescott 10

Hard to believe the regular season is coming to an end, but with a win tonight, the Prescott Badgers will secure a playoff spot in the Division 4A playoffs.

Quarterback Dellin Boyd reached a 1000 yards passing last week, and has thrown 13 touchdowns with 7 interceptions. Boyd also has 602 yards on the ground with 7 TDs. Sylas Espitia leads all rushers with 11 touchdowns and has 555 rushing yards. Six different receivers have caught touchdown passes this season, led by Brayden Nelson with 5. Rhett Pearce is averaging a tick under 10 tackles per game.

Mingus has had a season they would soon like to forget. After a (9-3) record in 2018, the Marauders have struggled all season.  The suspension of head coach Robert Ortiz after the one point loss to Mohave did not help either. Quarterback Zach Harrison’s numbers are not as bad as their record indicates.  Harrison has connected on over 60% of his passes for 9 touchdowns. The down size is the 11 interceptions. Peter Calandra, with 30 receptions and 4 touchdowns, is the top receiver. Andrew Meyer leads in rushing with 638 yards and 4 TDs. Trevor Hoke, and Clay Griffin lead the Marauders on a  defense that is giving up 46 points per game.

The Skinny: Mingus has a reputation of playing the Badgers tough. In fact being playoff killers for a Prescott in previous seasons. This year though it will take an amazing effort by the Marauders, and a complete meltdown by the Badgers, for Prescott to lose this one. That being said, Prescott needs to show up and take care of business. The Badgers cannot look forward to next weeks playoff. A win guarantees that.

Weather Report: Game time temperature will be around 60* with a slight breeze.

Chino Valley Cougars (0-4), (2-8) at Northwest Christian Crusaders (3-0), (7-1), at Northwest Christian H.S., Phoenix, 7pm

Last Season: Northwest Christian 56, Chino Valley 12

The Cougars have lost six in a row, and look to end the season on a high note, but that will not be easy. Jayden Smith has thrown for over 1000 yards with an even 6-6 in TDs and interceptions. Smith and Trevor Gianfranceco lead the team in rushing. Jacob Gilpin’s 32 catches, and  J.R. Willingham, with 27,  are one and two in receptions. Kamren Loftkin averages 19. 1 yards per catch with 3 touchdowns. Trevor Gianfranceco and Collin Knight continue to have big years on defense. Both averaging double digits in tackles.

The Crusaders are led by rusher Austin Young with 1211 yards and 6 touchdowns.Eason Meier has 9 TD passes and only 2 interceptions while completing 73% of his passes for 558 yards. Cameron Adams is the top target with 37 receptions for 515 yards and 7 touchdowns. Sophomore Luke Johnson is the anchor of the defense.

The Skinny: Northwest Christian has a lot of weapons, so the Cougars will have to try and contain their potent offense. If the Crusaders get turnover happy, that could make this on interesting.

Weather Report: A comfortable 72* and a slight breeze.
