Northern Arizona Suns Back In Win Column

PRESCOTT VALLEY- The Northern Arizona Suns responded with a 95-86 victory over the Reno Bighorns on Friday night at home following their first loss of the season to Los Angeles Defenders on Wednesday.

The lead changed 15 times and the teams were even 11 times as the two remained close throughout. As the game ticked to under five minutes remaining on the clock, the Suns were trailing. However, the team was able to take the lead and coast to win going on a 12-0 run in the final minutes of the contest.

“It was an ugly win but we did gut it out,” said Askia Booker who lead the team with 26 points in the game. “I’m happy but not satisfied.”

Booker lead the team with 26 points on the night while Johnny O’Bryant added 21, Elijah Millsap picked up 16 and Shaquille Harrison picked up a couple of rim-shacking dunks while scoring 15 points in the game.

“We stayed together, didn’t get rattled and some guys stepped up when we needed them,” said O’Bryant. “We got to come out and hit first all the time. We can’t get off to slow starts, or we are going to have nights like these where we have to battle and nights like LA, so we just got to get back to practice and get back to work.”

Coach Ellis was happy to get the win but he was disappointed in the play of the team defensively and other facets of the game. Ellis vows to practice on principles, defense, free throws and game plan instructions.

“I’m not happy with the way we won,” Ellis said after the game. “We have a young team and we are not doing the little things. We don’t have problems scoring but defense is where we have to hang our hat on. Defense is going to get these guys where they deserve.”

The Suns are back on the court for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.  Tip-off is 3pm at the Prescott Valley Event Center.
