PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs had a power play in the game’s final minute, but the Laredo Bucks held on for a 2-1 win on Friday night at Tim’s Toyota Center in the opening contest of the 2011-12 Central Hockey League season for both teams.
All the scoring took place in the second period, starting with Jason Reese for Laredo. Reese’s rebound goal gave the Bucks a 1-0 lead on the power play midway through the second period. Luke Erickson added his first of the year for the Sundogs to knot the game off a centering pass by Craig Macdonald, but Adam Rivet put the Bucks ahead for good less than a minute later with another man-advantage tally for Laredo.
Torrie Jung took the win for Laredo with 34 saves. Scott Reid made 35 saves for Arizona.
Laredo finished 2-for-6 on the power play, while the Sundogs were 0-for-5.
The two teams meet again Saturday night in Prescott Valley, AZ at 7:05 PM.
